Starting May 28, 2025, Southwest's baggage policy changes. Most passengers now pay a fee for every checked bag. Free allowances apply only to: A-List Preferred (2), Business Select/Choice Extra (2), A-List (1), and Rapid Rewards® Credit-Card holders (1).

Do I pay for a golf bag if it's my only checked item?

Yes, a golf bag counts as a standard checked bag and is subject to the same fees as any other checked luggage, based on your status and fare type.

Will the fee be refunded if I upgrade to Choice Extra later?

If you upgrade your fare to Choice Extra before check-in, you'll be eligible for the two free checked bags benefit. However, if you've already paid bag fees, you'll need to contact Southwest customer service regarding potential refunds.

Do military members still get free checked bags?

Yes, active-duty U.S. military personnel (with valid ID) can still check unlimited bags free of charge, provided they don't exceed 100 lbs and 80 inches in combined dimensions per bag.

Has the carry-on policy changed?

No, Southwest's carry-on policy remains unchanged. All passengers are still allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item at no additional charge.
